Standard style (solid) shaft collars use a hardened set screw to penetrate the shaft to achieve a light duty grip. These are an economical collar with a single set screw.  Solid shaft collars secure to the shaft by tightening the set screw again the shaft. To avoid shaft damage or marring do not over tighten the set screw. Solid collars do not work well when the shaft is harder than the set screw or when penetration marks on the shaft are not desirable. The zinc plating helps achieve a non-corrosive finish
